Alec Baldwin has broken his silence on the tragic death of a cinematographer on the set of his new movie

Alec Baldwin has broken his silence after the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The cinematographer was killed in a horrific accident on the set of the Oscar-nominated actor’s new film Rust after a prop gun Baldwin was using allegedly misfired.

The film’s director and co-writer Joel Souza was also seriously injured in the incident, but was later released from hospital.

The 63-year-old released a statement about the devastating incident, which took place Thursday while filming the western at a 2,000-acre ranch in New Mexico.

He said: “There are no words to express my shock and sadness at the tragic accident that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins, a deeply admired wife, mother and colleague.

“I am cooperating fully with the police investigation to explain how this tragedy happened and I am in contact with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son and all those who knew and loved Halyna.”

The Departed star, who is a father of seven, sent his condolences to Hutchins’ family and friends.

Police were called to the scene shortly after the incident and the cinematographer was rushed to hospital by helicopter, but later died at the University of New York Hospital. Mexico.

His tragic death has been confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.

A statement released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office says Hutchins and Souza were shot when the gun was discharged by Leader Baldwin.

He has since been questioned and released without charge as the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and witnesses are being interviewed by officers.

Photos of Baldwin, who also served as a producer on the Western, was pictured looking distraught after filming, and was spotted hunched over and sobbing while talking on the phone.

Production on the film has been halted indefinitely, and the producers of Rust have offered advice to affected members of their cast and crew.

“The entire cast and crew were absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” a Rust spokesperson said. Movies Productions LLC in a statement.

“We have indefinitely halted production on the film and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation,” they added.

“Advisory services” are also being provided to “everyone connected to the film as we work to process this horrific event,” the spokesperson said.
