Netflix has finally released its highly anticipated Black Mirror movie, Bandersnatch.
But, it’s going to have to be watched carefully if fans are to get it all out of this one.
The Choose Your Own Adventure film is the first of its kind for Netflix, which has only tried the interactive style in children’s programming, and features five possible endings, according to Variety.
This means that the length of the film can vary from around 40 minutes to 90 minutes – and the many ‘choice points’ throughout the film allow for over a trillion unique combinations.

Black Mirror fans have long been waiting for Netflix to drop the latest iteration of the series, with excitement mounting following rumors earlier this year that it would come in an interactive form.
Called Bandersnatch, the film tells the story of Stefan’s descent into madness after creating a video game based on a book of the same name.
And it’s up to the viewer to decide how it all plays out.
Black Mirror fans have already spent hours mapping out the various combinations based on the choices you can make, including an exhaustive effort shared today at Reddit.
The first step is simple: choose Stefan’s cereal for breakfast. This, the creators explain, is something of a gift to viewers.

‘We want [viewers] to have a successful choice from the start,’ Carla Engelbrecht, director of product innovation at Netflix, told Variety.
From then on, however, the story and consequences of your decisions become much more complex.
While there are ultimately a handful of endings, what happens between the beginning and the end can take a number of paths.
Not every decision will alter the course of the story (e.g. grain choice), but in total it’s more than a trillion different permutations, the team told Variety.
Twist in the tale: trailer told fans to ‘change’ their ‘mind’, seemingly confirming that speculative viewers will be able to choose how heartbreaking episodes end

HOW YOU CAN WATCH A WHOLE YEAR OF NETFLIX CONTENT
Kinnari Naik from the University of Leicester found that an unemployed adult could watch all 1,399 content uploaded to Netlfix in 2017 by following a strict routine.
The exploit would take 236.5 days, assuming the watcher spends 13 hours 50 minutes and 40 seconds per day – 58% of their time – on Netflix.
The study allocated time away from watching Netflix to account for:
- Four pints (two litres) of fluid per day, divided into four 176 fluid ounce (500 ml) servings, with each drinking break allotted 10 minutes
- 3 meal breaks of 30 minutes.
- Bath and wash 15 minutes a day
- Seven five-minute breaks to urinate
- An additional vacuum of 10 minutes to pass stool.
- The allotted sleep time was only seven hours
This matches previous reports that Bandersnatch contains over five hours of footage.
For the most part, viewers spent around 90 minutes watching it from start to finish.
For undecided viewers or those who want to try out the different possibilities, the total watch (and re-watch) time could be much longer.
