Durga Puja Pandal Kolkata

Kolkata: After two years of Covid lull, the organizers of Durga Puja in the “City of Joy” are doing their best to attract as many pandal-hoppers as possible.
One such organizer is Tarun Dal in Dumdum Park, home to one of Kolkata’s oldest Durga Pujas, who came up with an idea that will take visitors down memory lane of the city through their illustrious pandal. The pandal attempted to reflect the transformation of the city of Calcutta from the British era to present-day Kolkata.

The pandal will show how the colonial city formed by the East India Company was developed by the British and transformed into contemporary modernized Kolkata.

A statue of Job Charnock, believed to be the founder of Calcutta, has been erected at the pandal. Charnock first came to the village of Sutanuti, one of the three villages that later merged to form the city of Kolkata, on August 24, 1686, as a representative of the British East India Company to establish a factory.

Speaking to Times Network, Tarun Dal’s secretary said, “Artist Pradeep Das designed the pandal this year. Recently, the Durga Puja in Kolkata received the UNESCO heritage tag. We thought that if Durga Puja Kolkata got recognition from UNESCO, we came up with the idea to introduce ancient Calcutta and how puja was observed back then and modernized Kolkata through our pandal. However, Tarun Dal believes that Kolkata is still developing and there is still a lot to do to develop.
