Hearn has been accused of “exploding $1 billion” by Floyd Mayweather promoter Leonard Ellerbe, who has been trading verbal jabs with the Matchroom Boxing kingpin on social media for several weeks.
Eddie Hearn has been accused of ‘blowing his billion dollar budget’ with broadcaster DAZN by Floyd Mayweather promoter Leonard Ellerbe as their feud continues.
The Matchroom Boxing kingpin took his boxing fights to the DAZN streaming service last year after signing a lucrative deal after leaving a long deal with Sky Sports. Hearn has been promoting shows in America recently, including boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez’s recent loss to Dmitry Bivol.
Ellerbe hit out at Hearn again in a vicious rant accusing the Briton of having a different kind of privilege throughout his promotion career. “Imagine being named CEO of a new boxing entity, with a $1 billion budget to find talent, and blow it up because you misjudged the US market without showing anything,” Ellerbe said.
“In the meantime, proclaim yourself a global icon and the best promoter in the business. His [Eddie Hearn’s] the whole “I’m going to take over boxing in America” mantra has completely backfired.
“If he was the general manager of any sport, he was in charge of building a team and he was given a billion dollar budget and it completely failed, he would have fired. He has a different kind of privilege though.”
Hearn exchanged heated words with Ellerbe on social media, with a fight even being offered between the two promoters. The British star had also offered to sign Mayweather protege Gervonta Davis, who is set to become a free agent after his upcoming fight against Rolando Romero.

The British promoter has been largely responsible for reviving boxing on domestic shores, with Hearn now having a stable full of talent including Anthony Joshua, Alvarez and Katie Taylor. His partnership with DAZN will span five years as he continues to seek a “global takeover” in terms of boxing promotion.
Hearn’s previous comments appear to have angered Ellerbe further, with the 42-year-old claiming he is a hundred times taller than Ellerbe and his promotional outfit.
hearn said Professional boxing fans “If I don’t know what I’m doing, why am I a hundred times bigger than Leonard Ellerbe? “Why are we the biggest global promotional company in the world, bar none? And Leonard Ellerbe isn’t even relevant in the boxing industry.
“When you talk about the best promoters in the world, do you mention Leonard Ellerbe? Let’s be honest – not in a million years. “He then comes out and says, ‘oh, Canelo Alvarez only made 300,000 [pay-per-view] bought.’
“Double it and add more, and that’s the number of purchases [it did] and if you want, talk to DAZN, and they’ll confirm that too. This guy is hilarious. He is so angry that he lost his mind. I have to take her out for a nice cup of tea, Leonard Ellerbe.
