FBI concludes Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger killing Halyna Hutchins

Los Angeles, Aug. 14 (IANS): The FBI concluded its investigation by saying that Alec Baldwin must have fired normally on the set of the Spaghetti Western movie “Rust”, fatally wounding Halyna Hutchins in the ghost town of Bonanza City, New Mexico.

Contradicting Alec Baldwin’s earlier claims, the FBI’s forensic report into the ‘Rust’ fatal shooting case claims that the weapon used in the accident could not have been fired without pulling the trigger, reports Deadline.

Baldwin had previously claimed in a December interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, saying he hadn’t pulled the trigger on the gun. “The trigger was not pulled,” he said. “I didn’t pull the trigger.”

Baldwin, the film’s producer and lead actor, photographed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set last year. He said he thought he was wielding a “cold gun” with no live ammunition. However, when the gun fired, live ammunition hit Hutchins, killing her. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also injured in the shooting.

FBI accidental discharge tests determined that the single-action revolver required a pull of the trigger to fire.

With the hammer in the quarter and half cock positions, the gun “could not be fired without pulling the trigger,” the report viewed by Deadline states.

He added that the gun could not explode “without a pull of the trigger when the hammer was struck directly.” Such a response is normal for this type of revolver, the report says.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe County Sheriffs are still working with New Mexico’s Suffolk County Police Department and the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office to obtain, process and release phone records of Oscar nominee Baldwin. .

After the office reviews the IMO filings and Baldwin’s phone records, it will send the final “Rust” brief to the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office for final charging decisions.

“The District Attorney’s Office worked with the Suffolk County PD and Baldwin’s attorney to acquire the phone records. Once the Suffolk County PD completes their assistance to the agency and sends these tapes to New Mexico law enforcement, our detectives will then need to carefully review these phone records for evidentiary purposes,” said Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.

The deadly incident happened on October 21, when Baldwin, the multi-award-winning star of films such as ‘Talk Radio’, ‘The Hunt for Red October’ and ‘The Departed’, was given the green light from the first AD to unload a prop gun, which cost Hutchins his life.
