MMA: Pacatiw and Zamboanga face crucial fights in ONE: Full Circle

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 24) – Two rising stars of Filipino mixed martial arts will fight for honor and glory in ONE: Full Circle on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

In the main card, Team Lakay is betting that Jeremy Pacatiw is ready for what is by far the biggest test of his young career as he takes on Fabricio Andrade, the number four bantamweight.

Pacatiw said he would do whatever it takes to stop Andrade’s five-game winning streak that has yet to lose since joining ONE Championship in 2020.

“I have more to offer that will surely delight our audience and it’s expected every time we step into the Circle that we really have to show another version of ourselves, and another version is the upgraded version. We want to show the world that we are constantly evolving,” Pacatiw said.

The 25-year-old Filipino MMA upstart emerged victorious in his ONE Championship debut with his well-balanced game leading to the unanimous decision win over Chen Rui in ONE: Battleground last July.

“A win could put me in the ONE Athlete Ranking and also a chance to get me closer to an eventual title fight. That’s my dream here,” Pacatiw said of his pre-fight goal.

Pacatiw head coach Mark Sangiao noted that a win over Andrade would be monumental for the fighter nicknamed “The Juggernaut”, a nickname he can keep if he focuses on his strengths.

“Jeremy is an athlete who matches his opponent’s dance. When his opponent isn’t so explosive, Jeremy reflects that. When he’s up against a fierce one, so be prepared to see a fierce Jeremy. The Juggernaut has his own pace and he adapts and adapts according to his rival’s music,” Sangiao said.

Meanwhile, Marrok Force fighter Drex Zamboanga surprised everyone with his decision to jump two weight divisions from flyweight to lightweight.

“There is only one Filipino competing at lightweight and by moving here I feel like it opens up another opportunity for Filipinos to become world champions because that is my goal, to win. a lightweight world championship,” Zamboanga said.

Zamboanga, the brother of female atomweight fighter Denice, will take on Rahul Raju in one of six main card bouts at the event.

The 32-year-old fighter admitted he felt some nerves in his upcoming fight as he hadn’t faced any lightweight fighters, but said confidently he felt good about moving up to a heavier weight class given its large size.

“I felt like being at flyweight is not healthy for me. At the same time, it’s risky. not maximizing my strength in matches,” Zamboanga said.

“I still feel it to be honest, but I don’t think I’ve slowed down. I also feel stronger. The more weight I add, the more strength I also feel like I add,” added Zamboanga, who has typed on Detchadin Sorsirisupathin. with a rear naked choke in a second-round submission victory in his last fight at ONE: New Breed in August 2020.
