Name: Madison Peterson

School: Glendale

Age: 15 years old

Level: Freshman

Sport: Softball

Athlete of the Week Achievement: Peterson pitched Glendale to win over Bishop McCort (7-1) and Ferndale (4-2) in the District 6 Class 1A quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. She combined to strike out 27 batters and walk four. She allowed three earned runs and 11 hits in 14 innings. In the win over McCort, she went 2 for 4.

Season update: Peterson is 8-0 for the Lady Vikings 16-1, with a 0.90 ERA in over 46 innings. She has 69 strikeouts and 13 walks. Offensively, she’s batting .364 with 20 hits, 13 RBIs, 17 runs scored and 10 extra hits.

Quote from coach Bruce Vereshack: “She’s a freshman with the nerves of a senior. She’s been hard to score all year and she doesn’t let you chain hits. The good thing is that she doesn’t will only get better. With (senior pitcher) Hannah Noel injured two weeks ago, Madi’s role in the circle changed instantly and she embraced it. She’s a big part of why we succeeded this year.
