Alec Baldwin has opened up about the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust after a gun he was holding exploded during filming last October
Piers Morgan has spoken out against Alec Baldwin after the actor claimed he was “untouchable” following the fatal shooting on the set of Rust.
The 56-year-old former Good Morning Britain host took to Twitter to react to Baldwin’s claim that he is covered by the film contract for the film.
Alec said the contract made him financially untouchable following the death of a cinematographer he shot.
Piers said the stance was “disgusting” as he criticized the actor for making that assumption.
Baldwin has given his most detailed account of the death of Halyna Hutchins, 42, after a gun he was holding exploded during filming last October.
Baldwin was named in several lawsuits, including one brought by Hutchins’ widower, seeking damages for the death.
In a filing filed by his lawyers, the actor said he was not responsible for his death, as he had been assured the gun he was holding contained no live ammunition.
Baldwin, who in addition to starring in the Western called Rust also produced it, argued that he was absolved of blame as he was not responsible for checking ammunition or gun safety on the tray.
The logs indicate that Hutchins told the actor how to position the weapon, according to the filing.
“She ordered Baldwin to hold the gun higher, to a point where it was aimed at her,” he said.
“She watched the monitor carefully, then Baldwin, then back again, as she gave these instructions. In giving and following these instructions, Hutchins and Baldwin shared a basic and vital belief: that the gun was “cold” and contained no live ammunition. »
Baldwin then asked Hutchins if she wanted him to remove the hammer, as the script indicated, and she said yes, according to the record.
“Baldwin then pulled the hammer back, but not far enough to cock the gun,” he said. “When Baldwin dropped the hammer, the gun exploded.”

The actor’s attorneys have filed for arbitration in which they allege his agreement shields him from financial liability.
His lawyer, Luke Nikas, claims a clause that Baldwin, 63, and his company had signed into his contract means he bears no financial responsibility for legal fees or claims arising from the death.
The filing is to enforce the clause.
The document names Rust Movie Productions and Ryan Smith, one of the other producers, as respondents in the claim.
“Someone is guilty of chambering the live tour that led to this horrific tragedy, and it’s someone other than Baldwin,” Nikas wrote in the claim, describing Mr. Baldwin as a victim. who trusted others to do their job.
“This is a rare case where the system went down, and someone should be held legally responsible for the tragic consequences. That person is not Alec Baldwin.
The filing also details how Baldwin’s relationship with Hutchins’ husband, Matt, had deteriorated.
